They gave their lives....

Earlier in the year we were in our country's capital and
everyone had told us to go and see the War Memorial & Museum there.
Now i am not a big fan of any kind of glorification of war.
I know people go to war, governments chose to fight and
i am free and prosperous because i do not live in a country in conflict.

I am a sensitive person, aware of the rich history of war in my own genealogy.
My children have great grandparents from at least 6 different countries.
Humans have always been nomads.
Moving from place to place, walking across countries,
away from persecution, toward exile and safety.
That has been true for our own families.
I walk with the knowledge of these histories with me each day.
I try not to take the abundance i have for granted.
So we went at the end of a busy day.
The museum was closing.
I find the information within war museums very difficult.
Having travelled around the world i have been unable
to enter some places for the grief and energy that has overwhelmed me.
I know they are vital to keep war away, educating and reminding us of all that is lost.
The horror that we humans can inflict and endure.
But mainly i know that the reflection on the human spirit is strong in place like this.
A focus on the bravery, tenacity, justice and prevailing desire for freedom and peace.
I feel it all.

The walls are lined with the names of Australian fallen men and women,
who have given their lives.
The poppies stain the walls red by loved ones, friends and admirers.
Too many lives, my chest felt tight.
We walked towards the tomb of the unknown soldier.

Inside a silent reverence prevails.
A blanket of emotions, prickly and all-consuming.
Like a church, with no one denomination.
Here is a place for everyone.
Tears flow freely for those lost, in time, in places unknown.
Their names blowing in the breeze of eternity.

At this time my family were not Australian.
Their land was torn apart by 2 armed forces.
One a liberator, then an oppressor.
I am overcome with emotion thinking of my own ancestors.

I am devastated by 4 words....

THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES

Etched into the stone above the mausoleum.

The pool of remembrance, sparkles with silver from the coins holding wishes
for peace, liberty, justice and hope.
My hope is that our children will remember this place,
our conversations and the feelings they had while here.
The eternal flame burns in the pool.
I am reminded that anything is possible.
May the angels of the past continue to inspire creative solutions
towards everlasting peace and goodwill toward all people.

In Australia it is ANZAC Day on the 25th of April.
A national day of remembrance, i will say a a silent little prayer of thanks, because i can.
Will you?

May you sparkle brightly,
and twirl every chance you get,
because you can.

How about a nature walk....

have you ever been out for a walk to discover.....
....something?
take a walk with me along side a meandering creek...
be open
awaken your senses...

what do you hear?
birds, water, children, the ground under foot...

what do you see?
many unusual fungi
a mini mushroom growing tall & strong in a fallen log
.... does a little fairy live here?....
a tiny world, unseen to us most of the time
until we stop and look, wonder & imagine....

sometimes i feel i have a heart of stone
but i know mostly it is super soft, fragile, vulnerable and resilient....
i didn't get a job that i really wanted last week.
it would have meant i got to create and work in an artistic way, every day.
i have been sad i didn't get it.
it feels like a lost opportunity...
i don't know whats up around the bend.
uncertainty feels tiring.
the path seems long...
no end in sight.
yet i am blessed
great love and support
assurances that something better must be around that corner
encouragement that this experience has been an door being opened
a new path
new possibilities
a new beginning...
beauty, strength & uniqueness is evident everywhere i look
looking inward it is reflected in me
the energy will come back
to move me forward
upward and onto the next possibility...
and we end up here
its been a nice winters day to take a walk
the powerful waters fall
reminding me its all temporary
everything is as it should be
there is always enough
i am enough
i will find what i am look for
the path is so worthwhile, for there is so much to know along the way...

where did your path take you today?

Where does your hope live?

finding light even with a heavy heart
for the sadness breaking around the world

Good morning, sunshine...

i was awoken by the chirpy birds outside my window this morning. they were loud. there was super vigour in their chirpiness. i had not heard bird song in the morning for a long time.
there was joy in their song. on opening my eyes i could see sunshine.
deep breath in. big sigh out. smile.

all seems better in the sunshine. i have become a freak for the sun. i have never been a sun worshiper, but i'm a devotee today.
so let the sunshine in....
my aunt is doing better. her op went well. she is back to her feisty self, red marker in hand. apparently her notes are full of attitude, and no one would have it any other way. a long recovery is ahead, it looks bright.

so to her, you and me,
lets listen to these today...

where has the colour gone?

i noted that i uploaded this collage to flickr on 22nd of June. It is now approaching the end of August and i can think of ONLY 2 sunfilled days. grey, grey go away come again next winter!
the brief, fleeting rainbows aren't even doing it for me these days....

grey seeps in and makes me feel cold, even with the heating on. luckily this weekend i am celebrating a friend turning 40. we have been friends for 26years. that is so cool. to have known someone for that long and still love them to bits and pieces. she is getting braver and setting up a blog. will be celebrating that with her and you very soon. this is one of hers....

(a teeny teena treat)
this girl is gorgeous and so are her pics
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
dear friend
I celebrate YOU.

Another grey note: my aunt has just had surgery today. took 8hrs & many skilled, amazing people and lots of prayers. It is her birthday tomorrow. she will most likely still be unconscious and in ICU. so i ask you to lift a glass and toast her. she is an amazing woman who knows how to celebrate life. i look forward to her recovery so that we may celebrate her and what a life this is.

I was listening to Amy Ahlers recently and one of her brilliant insights revealed to me that when you worry you can't love. so i choose love. i send it to my extended family in cups, buckets, skips, lorries & shipping containers. may these vessels overflow with love and flood us all with comfort, relief and some peace in these uncertain times...

to the angels: i lay my faith at your feet and my heart in your hands...

Is it cloudy where you are?

must try to remember this,
even when the fears around me make me feel like there is no point in dreaming because the hard reality is a hard reality.
how do you hold on to what you believe in, when the winds swirling around you are blowing your dreams away? Are they less important, then the hard reality stuff?
How come it is so easy to watch the dreams flying away and to get stuck in the mud? its all a bit sticky & stucky around here.
i want to learn how to hold on the strings of my balloon dreams, to believe it is worthwhile to dream, it is more real than the hard reality. i want to teach my children this, but i don't quite get it myself.
twirling,

2010...

Another new beginning....
As i approach my 40th year i feel a sense of preparation. I must be a grown up now.
some of my choices and my self perception seem adolescently unhelpful to my being able to live fully in my life.
do i have my shit together? Not really. Some days are better than others.
overall i believe i am holding ME back from living a joyfilled-alive-compassionate-loving-life that has a depth which excites me and propels me.
i want to uncover the junk i carry emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. lighten my load by healing the tender spots and letting go of that which no longer works for me but against me.
so that i may play, dance and run open armed towards those i love. i find myself too often pushing away those i love. this makes be feel sad?
So I think i will be leaping into health-full-ness, conscious living, open-hearted, vulnerably-fragile discomfort, this year. i am nervous. but here i go.....

where have i been, now?

We have had holidays, and sickness, a fresh term at school and a garden to work.
As for me mainly laundry, a bit of painting, some photos, talking on the phone to catch up with the peeps and am getting hormonally sorted. There is a new feeling of calm in me. Loving that.

Bit unnerving.....when the man of the house asks "who are you and what have you done with my wife?" in a hectic, grump free morning kitchen.

Pilates is helping too. Hurting but in that good, "i can feel it is working for me" way.... if only i could walk every day or a few days every week, i'd be seeing the progress and feeling the love... feeling saner but not much kinder... "just do it" is like a foreign concept, what is with that?

nearly in the month of "another year older and what have you done?" and getting a sense of waisted opportunities, i don't have regret, cause i don't know what they were/are, yet i have a feeling.... do you know what i mean?

i know where i have been, not so clear on where i'm going... this maybe the thing of it.....

how was your today?

it was windy,
stormy,
sideways rain,
with thick low clouds,
noisy hail &
the sky was gloomily dark all day.
ever feel that way?
no rainbows
*sigh
my son learnt "igh" words today
he knew so many
thought i might use one
a crack of light clearly filtered through

look what i did......

i am so excited with this little painting i call
"hope grows with tears"
kell rae asked for ideas for her new paintings
i was inspired by my contribution
thought i'd see what that looks like to me
just incase she uses it
which would be so interesting to see what she would do
but i love this
so very much
